| Recycling for "Cash for Kids" |
The “Cash for Kids” charity is £100 better off thanks to the recycling efforts of The Redforrest Group on the Team Valley in Gateshead and their unblemished recycling record, which resulted in the company scoring a 100% clean-sheet in a recent recycling audit conducted by Premier Waste Management.
Clare Allinson, Recycling Advisor at Premier Waste said: “Premier conducts in-depth audits on recycling to ensure that no contamination is creeping into the Recycling Banks. It is important that we help our customers keep contamination out, since contaminated recyclate cannot be
re-used and has to be land filled.”
It is part of the group’s business strategy to anticipate and understand the balance between operations and the environment, believing that every company has a duty to provide appropriate arrangements for the disposal of their waste. Having had a good working relationship with Premier Waste Management since 1997, we were confident their expertise would assist us to forge ahead with our environmental strategy and a recycling scheme was introduced, which commenced in November 2007.”
Since starting the recycling scheme with the assistance of Premier Waste and Robert Horne, The Redforrest Group has recycled over 75 tons of plastics, foams and composite materials, metals, cardboard and paper, thus reducing landfill costs by approximately 65% and diverting commercial waste away from landfill. This was done by capturing five main waste streams and segregating these into clearly marked cages and recycle bins.
It is our ultimate aim to avoid landfill and recycle all our waste. We have received a very good response from all our employees, who have embraced the challenge of recycling and these are the people that have made it work at every level within the business.
Other initiatives have been introduced to further compliment the waste management system with special recycling of fluorescent tubes. Mobile phones and ink cartridges are donated to charity funds such as ‘The Great North Air Ambulance Service’ and ‘When you wish upon a star’. The Company is also committed to sourcing more environmentally friendly materials and carbon reducing products in the manufacturing process.
As we are all aware 2009 may be a challenging year, it is therefore more important than ever to ensure that we accept responsibility to continue with environmental issues including recycling with Premier Waste.
